'Sisters In Christ' Print

With Valentine’s Day approaching, I wanted to create a new version of this painting I made for Mother’s Day. Around this time of year, I often find myself thinking about the different kinds of love that make my life feel full. I’m so grateful to have a deep love with my husband. I’m also so grateful for the love I have between myself and my sisters, my friends, my community of women at church, my community of women online. All of this love makes my heart and life full.

I’ve recently been thinking about all of those women I get to be surrounded by. My faith in Christ has connected me to them more deeply and helped me to feel His love for them. 

In this painting, Christ stands with and comforts many different women. If you swipe through the slides, you will get a peek into their individual stories. The women and Christ are all connected by Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"). This is a Japanese pottery technique where broken pottery is put back together with a gold lacquer. This technique has become a huge part of my life and my work, and I felt like it needed to be incorporated into this painting. To me Kintsugi is a reminder that Christ is able to heal and make something incredibly beautiful out of what I think is shattered.  I know that Christ perfectly knows and understands the different trials and heartbreak you have endured as a woman. I wanted to create a piece that could remind me that you are loved, treasured, and part of a bigger human family. You are surrounded by sisters. Every woman has different trials, obstacles, pains, and heartaches. The Kintsugi in this piece symbolizes that Christ can take that heartache and make something beautiful. 

This piece is also a reminder that our brokenness connects us. What we have been through and experienced allows us to connect and love others. If you feel lonely around Valentine’s Day, I hope this helps you remember that you belong. There is the Savior, who I know with all my heart remembers and knows each woman. And there are so many women who know what you are experiencing and love you. Your sisters in Christ

I use a beautiful, heavy-weight, acid-free paper for my prints. Prints come unframed and signed by the artist. All of my prints are border-less.
