A detailed print of my original painting titled ‘Broken For Us’.
If you’ve been here for a while, you know how enraptured I am with Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"). Using this special technique, broken pottery is fixed using a gold lacquer, which reattaches the pieces together and makes it whole again.
The purpose of this technique is to honor and highlight the history of the piece. It treats the breakage the piece has endured as something of beauty.
For a long time I have wanted to incorporate Kintsugi into one of my religious pieces. After all, no one in the history of the world was more shattered and broken than our Savior. Our Savior who was broken for us. Who endured all of our individual pain and trials, the difficulties and sorrow of every single person who ever lived. When I see the golden lines on this piece, I see each of us.
Christ was our perfect example in everything, and I think that includes being broken and being healed. In this piece, you can see that all of the lines stem from Christ’s (abstract) heart. I know that He knows each of us perfectly and knows what we are going through. I know that ‘with arms outstretched, the Savior offers the gift of healing’ (Elder Patrick Kearon).
I use a beautiful, heavy-weight, acid-free paper for my prints. Prints come unframed and signed by the artist. All of my prints are border-less.
Each print is placed in a clear plastic sleeve to protect from moisture while traveling to you, and mailed in a rigid envelope.
Colors may vary due to monitor settings.
