After experiencing years of sexual abuse at the hands of a family friend, my brain, heart, and spirit were broken. In therapy, I played, talked and painted. I think it was there that I learned the importance of painting my feelings. My hands could express all of the emotions that I did not have words for. To this day, that is my favorite thing about artwork - it captures all of the emotions and experiences that we cannot describe in our own language. It speaks the language of the heart and soul.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThroughout my years of going to therapy, there were many images I visualized that would help me. This is one of those images, and it’s been an honor to finally paint it. When I have experience heartache, betrayal, abandonment, depression, or any other trial in my life, I have looked to the trees. How graceful and brave they are in the face of adversity!! How adaptable and strong. I want to be like them. Not growing bitter, but just growing. Growing stronger and more confident. I know that in life there are many, many storms ahead of me. This painting gives me courage to be resilient and strong in the face of mighty winds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe winds came and stretched me more than I thought possible. So many times, I felt as though I would break. One day, I would I look down and see how mighty my roots had become, how firmly planted I was.
